Recommendations for laying super screed
Super screed is a cementacious product and little different from dry screed, the main difference being the fluidity. This product is ideal for any floor, but especially when under floor heating is installed. The consistency of super screed allows the heating pipes to be completely encapsulated making for more efficient heat transfer.
After all electrical ducting and water pipes have been laid on your sub-floor and polystyrene (preferably high density) has been positioned on the floor, plastic must be laid over the whole floor, and preferably 100mm up the walls to give a tank effect. The heating pipes can now be installed. Please ensure the pipe clips used are well fixed into the polystyrene.
If this procedure is not followed there is the possibility super screed could get under the polystyrene and the whole floor could float. Make sure your under floor heating pipes are well fixed to the polystyrene through the plastic, also it is essensial your pipes are tested and left full of water make sure all holes between rooms and at external doors are filled to stop super escaping.
There is the possibity of some air bubbles appearing on the finished super screed floor, this does not compromise the intregrity of the floor and can be scraped of after curing if necessary.
Tips for tiling floors with under floor heating.
Make sure your tiler uses the proper adhesive to allow for movement.
Make sure expansion joints are placed at doors etc where room meets room to allow for movement.
Allow sufficient space where tile meets wall to allow for movement
